Louis Bacon announces Tercio Ranch partnership

Louis Bacon, owner of the 21,000-acre Tercio Ranch, has announced a partnership with the Colorado Open Lands Program to set up a conservation easement over the ranch, to the west of Trinidad.
The ranch, owned by Bacon’s Tercio Ranch Holdings and Red River Ranch Holdings, will be protected from development by the noted conservationist, who has recently been named by Forbes as one of the world’s greenest billionaires.
Bacon, a successful hedge fund manager and philanthropist, has owned Tercio Ranch since 1996, and has devoted numerous resources to conservation projects in southern Colorado and across the world.
In June last year, Bacon announced a donation of nearly 90,000-acres to a conservation easement on his Blanca Ranch in southern Colorado. The land was given to the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service (FWS) protecting a key area of environmental importance.
Along with a second easement of 77,000 acres at his adjoining Trinchera Ranch, this became the largest easement ever made to FWS.
Louis Bacon is the founder and CEO of Moore Capital Management and in 1992 he set up Moore Charitable Foundation to help with conservation and other worthy causes around the world.
As an outdoor sportsman in his youth, Bacon has been keen advocate of conservation in the United States and abroad for over 20 years.
Since its creation, the Moore Charitable Foundation has funded and supported over 200 organisations from local levels to international projects.
The official announcement of the easement is due next week and several notable speakers are due at the event. Over 1m acres of land have now been preserved by private landowners in the Southern Sangre de Cristo area. This means a corridor has been created stretching from Great Sand DunesNational Park to Vermejo Park Ranch in northern New Mexico.
Earlier this year, Louis Bacon was awarded the prestigious Audubon Medal for exceptional commitment to conservation in Colorado and across the United States.

This latest project in the most recent in a long line of conservation projects undertaken by the philanthropist and represents a major step in preserving the wild habitats in the area.
